Day 3 of the World Scout Conference was a big one with key announcements and more workshops, networking opportunities and side events as part of a full programme agenda. We celebrated the latest recipients of the Bronze Wolf Award, looked back on some memorable moments from the 24th World Scout Jamboree and gathered together around the virtual Scouting campfire.
New Voting Members elected to the World Scout Committee
All 170 Member Organizations registered for the Conference cast their votes to elect 12 new Voting Members to the World Scout Committee to serve during the 2021-2024 triennium. After a day of anticipation the results of the election were announced during plenary.
The Voting Members are: Mehdi Ben Khelil (Tunisia), Edward Andrew “Andy” Chapman (United States of America), Mori Chi-Kin Cheng (Hong Kong), Wayne Adrian Davis (Ethiopia), Jo Deman (Belgium), Nika Gorovska (Ukraine), Pia Melin Graasbøll (Denmark), Sarah Rita Kattan (Lebanon), Eun Gui Kim (Republic of Korea), Daiana Neil (Argentina), Christine “Chrissy” Pollithy (Germany) and Juan Reig (Spain).
We wish to extend our appreciation to the 25 candidates from across the Scout Movement for their willingness and interest to serve WOSM’s governance. We encourage them and all other interested volunteers to #JoinTeamPurple as part of the next Operational Framework.
Showcasing the work of partners and collaborators
National Scout Organization (NSO) delegations had the opportunity to take part in workshops to strengthen their capacity and meet WOSM partners. The workshop topics ranged from digital transformation to Safe from Harm to innovative membership growth, as well as a deep dive in WOSM’s work on strengthening the use of different languages. Our global partner WWF ran a session on how NSOs can become more carbon neutral, and UNHCR highlighted how Scouting’s Youth Programme can be extended to include young refugees.
We heard from the World Scout Foundation about their work and its impact on communities during the past triennium, including the success of the Messengers of Peace initiative which has engaged millions of Scouts and nearly all NSOs to inspire a culture of peace and community service around the world.
The Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) team shared how they have adapted the Permanent Mini Jamboree to counter the impact of the global pandemic, and a panel of partners from the Big 6 Youth Organizations discussed the opportunities for youth engagement and youth development in a post-pandemic world.
Innovation and continuous improvement for the future
We highlighted the impact of WOSM Services since the launch of the platform in 2018 and heard from a panel of experts about how National Scout Organizations and Scouts around the world can benefit from the resources and support provided by World Scouting. The World Scouting Showcase exhibition space is still open for visitors, so drop by if you want to learn more about one of the 13 WOSM Services.
The day 3 plenary session ended with presentations by the National Scout Organizations bidding to host the World Scout Conference in 2024, World Scout Moot in 2025 and World Scout Jamboree in 2027. The vote to elect these Hosts will be open until 12:00 GMT on 28 August.
