Day 3 highlights from the Youth Forum

Day 3 of the first virtual World Scout Youth Forum continued to engage participants in learning opportunities, networking and inspiring discussions. After becoming familiar with the eVoting System, participants had the opportunity to make one of the defining decisions of the Youth Forum with the election of the Youth Advisors to the World Scout Committee.
Youth Advisors elected for the 2021-2024 triennium

After a day of excitement and anticipation, the Youth Forum announced the results of the election in plenary, welcoming six new Youth Advisors who will play a key role in the decisionmaking of the Committee during the 2021-2024 triennium

The new Youth Advisors are Fatima Aliyeva (Azerbaijan), Yoobinnara Kim (Republic of Korea), Reese Medina (Belize), Alhassan Soltan (Egypt), Maman Lamine Soumana Ide Issa (Niger) and Melissa Wilm Senna Pinto (Brazil).

We were so inspired by the diversity and vision of all 18 candidates who put their names forward and ran great election campaigns. And we want to share a thank you to all candidates for their dedication to non-formal education and youth development, and wish they #JoinTeamPurple as volunteers.

Building bridges to tackle global challenges

A wide range of breakout sessions ran throughout the day focused on everything from making a #PromiseToThePlanet to digitising education to championing gender equality. We learned through an initiative by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, that even as young people we can do little things that contribute to humanitarian action.

We heard from Scout Leaders who offered tips on how to use dialogue to bring people together and polled the audience in plenary about some of the most pressing social, economic and environmental challenges facing young people today. Not surprisingly climate change, social inequalities and unemployment came out on top.

These discussions aim to help inspire participants to work within International Teams to prepare inputs into the Youth Forum Declaration. Over the coming days you will work to share your ideas, opinions and perspectives about the future of Scouting and the change you want to see in the world. As a key outcome of the Youth Forum, the Declaration will also guide the work of the Youth Advisors in the next triennium.

Getting to know the Conference Resolutions

The Draft Resolutions, Constitutional Amendments and World Triennial Plan were brought to life and introduced in an illustrated video that outlined proposals on environmental sustainability, leadership in peace, Safe from Harm, Scout events in the modern world, WOSM’s registration fee system, evolving the Youth Forum and Conference, and youth engagement and the Youth Advisor system. Our Forum Chairs welcomed some of you to the stage from different parts of the world to ask questions about the Draft Resolutions.

Participants have until the deadline of 21 August at 18:00 GMT to submit proposed Amendments to the Conference Resolutions for consideration of the Youth Forum
