This gathering will bring together over 200 young and adult leaders in Scouting – experts in youth empowerment and advocacy – alongside subject-matter experts from various fields, and more, to discuss the future of global cooperation and the vital role of youth in decision-making.
Date: 20 August 2024
Time: 19:00 UTC+3 (Cairo local time)
The Intergenerational Town Hall Evening Rally is part of a series of Intergenerational National Town Halls supported by the UN Foundation in 2024. These town halls aim to cultivate broad-based support for the future of the United Nations by engaging leaders, experts, and policymakers across generations.
We want to spark ideas and commitments that will echo worldwide, championing a grassroots approach to global action!
At the 43rd World Scout Conference, our town hall aims to articulate and amplify Scouting’s vision for the future. We will focus on the pivotal role of global cooperation and the urgent need to address 21st-century challenges. This event is an incredible opportunity to participate in intergenerational dialogue, discuss the future role of young people in decision-making at all levels and explore Scouting’s advocacy position in influencing these decisions and their impact on youth.
The event will feature key speakers, including Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Kevin Frey, CEO of Generation Unlimited, and other experts who bring vast knowledge to the discussion.
Key themes and discussions
Young people are uniquely positioned to drive transformative change, thanks to unparalleled access to technology and global networks. By creating youth-inclusive spaces that empower young voices, we can shape a better today and lay the foundation for future generations to become active global citizens. Our town hall will highlight the critical need for fostering international and intergenerational dialogue to address future challenges comprehensively.
Discussions will focus on the Pact of the Future, a key action plan to rally governmental support at the 2024 Summit of the Future in September. This summit is a crucial opportunity to align today’s policies with tomorrow’s aspirations. We will delve into themes such as global governance, sustainable development, international peace and security, future generations, and digital cooperation. These discussions will also contribute to the Road to 2100, an intergenerational vision inspired by young people, set to be unveiled at the final SDG Summit in 2027.
Recognising that young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also leaders today, our town hall will address their demands for accountable state actors, recognition of their expertise, and a global system that ensures their interests and inclusivity. We will highlight the necessity of granting young people their deserved seats at decision-making tables to secure sustainable and cooperative futures for all.
