The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has announced a new set of dates to hold the 14th World Scout Youth Forum and 42nd World Scout Conference in 2021, following postponement in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following a decision by the World Scout Committee in consultation with the event Host, the Youth Forum will now be held from 16 to 20 August 2021, and the Scout Conference will take place from 23 to 27 August 2021.
WOSM is currently working closely with the host, the Egyptian Scouting Federation, in planning for the events with strong commitment and support from the Government of Egypt. Given the unpredictable impact of the pandemic on large-scale international events, WOSM is exploring a variety of options that would enable National Scout Organizations and their leadership to participate in the most engaging and inclusive way possible either in-person or virtually.
More than 250 young people from around the world between the ages of 18 and 26 were set to attend the World Scout Youth Forum in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt this year when the event was abruptly postponed as a result of the global health crisis. As a consequence, the age range to take part in the Youth Forum event has been revised to include young people ages 18 to 27, allowing participants who were eligible for the 2020 event dates to also be eligible to attend in 2021. The same approach to the age ranges is also being applied to the nominations for Youth Advisors to the World Scout Committee for the 2021-2024 term.
When more details and guidance for participants becomes available, it will be posted to scoutconference.org.
