The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the spread of the novel COVID-19 virus as a pandemic with the confirmed number of cases surpassing 100,000 worldwide.
At this time, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) is continuing to monitor and evaluate the situation to determine the health and safety impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the 42nd World Scout Conference and 14th World Scout Youth Forum, scheduled to take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt in August 2020.
As the situation unfolds, we will provide National Scout Organizations with more information about the additional measures WOSM may take to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all participants. For now, we request all NSOs to delay purchasing airline tickets or making further travel arrangements until WOSM conducts a full assessment and issues a communication about the status of the events. Furthermore, registration will open at a later date and be communicated to NSOs in April 2020.
We will continue follow the advice of the World Health Organization and the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population in preparation for the events. For more information about the COVID-19, please review WOSM’s advisory on Scout.org, or refer to WHO’s Situation Report and the CDC’s COVID-19 Situation Summary. More details and guidance for participants will be posted to this website as it becomes available.
